SEA PIECES is a 4 movement work for solo tenor recorder written by me, Linda Swope. I love the haunting sound of the tenor recorder, and in experimenting with rippling sound effects for the woody flute sonority, the idea for this work was conceived. I love to write for recorder as I aim to showcase the diversity of character that the recorder family, particularly the tenor recorder, can achieve. This set of pieces is about a 7 minute work, great for recital performance. This little work musically describes the ocean. Great for a summer recital, this piece represents a summer vacation at the sea. The four movements are entitled Boardwalk, Waves, Dolphins, and Little Boat. The music conjures up the image of skipping along on the boardwalk, the undulating waves of the sea, the rippling playfulness of the dolphins, and the last movement, a barcarolle, establishes the mood of sitting in a little boat. The music is written for a more advanced player, but it is not too difficult. The pieces can be mastered with practice. This makes a good performance piece for the serious recorder player who needs new literature of a more contemporary style than the usual early music selections.
